Giving” Short Story"
By Ali Albadr
He bent down, placed it in the palm of his hand, and began to take bites. A furious scream, a blow to the head, and the apple rolled away. The child forgot his hunger and became absorbed in wiping away his tears, his breathing coming in broken gasps.
I walked towards the grocer and placed my hand on his shoulder.
Our eyes met, and he looked puzzled by the tears flowing over a child. I smiled, and he smiled shyly, whispering, “What is this? Can this really be my hand?” He filled a sack and handed it to the child, then continued, “Such a strange feeling! It is as though I have tasted the fruit of immortality through giving!”
