Light

She is… a sun rising from the sea, a flower breaking its way through the rubble, a smile born despite the wounds. A Palestinian woman who carries in her eyes the story of a homeland, in her patience the strength of a people, and in her presence a promise that life will prevail.

She is not merely a passing woman…

She is Palestine when it smiles despite the pain.

She is a woman worth a thousand men—not because she seeks strength in weapons, but because she has forged patience into a weapon, love into a homeland, pain into determination, and a tent into a temporary shelter that can never erase her first home from her memory.

She loves Palestine as a mother loves her newborn child. She fears for it, dreams for it, and holds its image close to her heart, even when she sleeps upon a land she does not know.

Whenever destruction asks her,

“What do you have left?”

she answers with a silence that resembles certainty:

“I still have Palestine.”

And whenever war tries to steal her features, she gathers her hair, brushes the dust of the road from her face, carries her dreams, and walks on.

Because she knows that rubble is not the end of the story, that a tent is not a substitute for a homeland, and that no matter how long the night may last, it can never prevent dawn from arriving.

She is a woman from northern Palestine, carrying the North within her heart when the land grew too narrow for her. She carries the key to her home in her memory when the home itself has disappeared. She carries her children as Palestine carries its dreams.

She is extraordinarily beautiful…

Not because the war has spared her face, but because the war passed around her and failed to tear that light from her soul—the light that whispers that a human being can still live, even in the heart of the storm.

She is a Palestinian woman…

Born from the womb of tragedy, she creates life.

From among the ruins, she plants hope.

From within her tent, she gazes toward her homeland, as though saying to the entire world:

We may be displaced from a place…

but Palestine can never be displaced from the heart.
